Dr. Lars U. Buttler
Founder & CEO

Dr. Lars Buttler is a Founder and the CEO of Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. Dr. Buttler helms strategy and business direction for Trion as the company sets out to define the future of entertainment. Under his leadership, Trion develops groundbreaking new capabilities and content for broadband, the greatest entertainment and mass media platform.

Prior to founding Trion, Dr. Buttler was the Vice President for Global Online at Electronic Arts, the world's largest independent developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software. Dr. Buttler led EA's strategy for online games and services and ran EA's Online Studio, home to the pioneering Ultima Online MMOG franchise.

Before EA, Dr. Buttler served as Vice President for Leveraged Buyouts at the Carlyle Group, the premier global private equity firm, focusing on large-scale investments in entertainment, media, and telecommunications.

Prior to Carlyle, Dr. Buttler served as President of Wingcast Europe, a joint venture of QUALCOMM & Ford Motor Co., and a leading wireless in-vehicle media platform & interactive service network. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Dortmund University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and earned an M.B.A from Harvard Business School.

Jon Van Caneghem
Founder & President/CCO

Jon Van Caneghem is a Founder and the President/Chief Creative Officer of Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. Van Caneghem's focus is guiding the development of the company's technology platform as well as providing vision and leadership for Trion's internal game development teams.

Van Caneghem has built a revered reputation as an exceptional game developer who consistently introduced successful new IP to the market. In 2004 Van Caneghem was inducted into the Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame, and is currently honored in two different categories, Strategy and Role-Playing.

Van Caneghem began his career in 1983 as the Founder, President, and CEO of New World Computing, a publisher and developer of computer and console games. In his twenty years at New World Computing, he oversaw the publishing of more than 250 titles worldwide, representing $1 billion in retail sales, and created the best-selling Might and Magic and Heroes franchises. Van Caneghem successfully sold New World Computing to leading developer and publisher 3DO in 1996. He remained with 3DO as President and Lead Visionary through 2003.

Robert "Jay" Lee
Vice President of Technology

Robert "Jay" Lee is the Vice President of Technology for Trion World Network Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. Lee helms technical design and development of the Trion platform joining a world-class team of video game and internet industry veterans. In his long and distinguished career designing and developing large-scale online games, Lee brings the company 20 years experience in computer programming, system design and development, and database modeling and implementation.

Prior to joining Trion, Lee spent several years as a lead architect of Destination Games, which became NCsoft North America. Lee was introduced to the fast-growing online gaming world at Origin Systems, the creators of Ultima Online. Before Origin, he began his interactive entertainment career with Sierra Online. Lee was credited as a programmer on multiple top-selling titles from Sierra.

Prior to entering the field of gaming, Lee had a successful 10-year career with EDS, one of the premier information services firms in the world. At EDS he worked on major corporate accounts including Exxon and General Motors, providing technical leadership, performing all aspects of large scale system analysis as well as design and development on both mainframe and client-server systems.

Lee has spoken on industry panels and has published several articles in game industry literature, including Game Programming Gems 4, Massively Multiplayer Game Development, Game Developer Magazine and on Gamasutra.com.

Nicholas Beliaeff
Vice President of Product Development & Head of Trion World Network San Diego

Nicholas Beliaeff is the Vice President of Development and the head of the San Diego-based production team for Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the connected world. Beliaeff oversees all product development for Trion across San Diego and Redwood City studios, coordinating with the Austin tech center. He also manages day-to-day operations for the San Diego office.

As an integral member of the executive team, Beliaeff joins Trion with almost 20 years of experience creating some of the most well-known titles in the video game business - focused largely on Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG). Most recently, Beliaeff served as Executive Director of Development for Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) where he built the console division and launched new IP, such as Untold Legends and Field Commander, as well as operating SOE's EverQuest I & II, EverQuest: Online Adventures, PlanetSide and Vanguard franchises. As the head of development at SOE San Diego, Beliaeff managed and monitored design and operational steps for the studio's games. During his time with SOE, Beliaeff oversaw a staff of more than 200 people working on titles across multiple platforms and genres, including MMO and traditional games, all with significant multiplayer components.

Throughout his distinguished career, Beliaeff has been able to bring vision and creativity to every title he has held. Prior to SOE, he was Vice President of Development for Rapid Eye Entertainment. During his tenure as Vice President of Product Development at The 3DO Company, Beliaeff secured the Major League Baseball and Players Association licenses while directing the High Heat Baseball franchise, one of the best reviewed PC sports games of all time. At Strategic Simulations, Inc., he led all third party development.

Beliaeff cut his teeth in the video games industry at New World Computing where he assisted with game design and development of Might & Magic II, King's Bounty and Nuclear War.

Glen Van Datta
Vice President of Engineering & General Manager of Trion World Network Austin

Glen Van Datta is the Vice President of Engineering and General Manager of the Austin Studio for Trion World Network, Inc. (Trion), the publisher and developer of connected games and entertainment. Van Datta oversees Trion’s vision for its technological platform, which offers a true competitive advantage and helps bring server based games to market more efficiently. Van Datta also supervises all support activities in relation to the Trion platform, including quality assurance, operations and customer service and oversees day-to-day operations at Trion’s Austin studio.

Van Datta brings with him more than 22 years of experience in software development, 12 of which consisted of online videogame development. He joins Trion from his most recent post as Director of Online Technology at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA). At SCEA, Van Datta oversaw an international team of more than 80 employees that developed a full-featured online software suite, known as the SCE-RT SDK, to enable online games for the PlayStation® 2, PlayStation® Portable and PLAYSTATION® 3. Today, the SCE-RT SDK has been used in over 120 production titles, including Singstar, Warhawk, SOCOM, Resistance, and Home.

Prior to SCEA, Van Datta was co-founder and Vice President of Engineering at RTIME, Inc. where he was responsible for the design, development and testing of the RTIME SDK online, in-game and player matching platform, used in more than 30 published titles.

Russ Brown
Senior Development Director

Russ Brown is Senior Development Director for Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. At Trion, Brown's primary role is to leverage his development acumen to establish production processes for internal development teams, and guide those teams through all stages of development to produce the highest quality products.

Brown came to Trion from Electronic Arts (EA), where he established a reputation for consistent execution as a Development Director on renowned franchises such as the Lord of the Rings and James Bond.

All told, Brown has shipped more than 30 titles on consoles and PCs in his career, which started in 1987, at SSI on the Dungeons and Dragons "Gold Box" games. He stayed with SSI through its acquisition by Mattel until 2000, moving from level to lead engineer, and eventually to Director of Engineering.

Pulling from his comprehensive history of development management, and his knowledge and intimacy of the gaming industry, Brown ensures that both work and ideas at Trion flow seamlessly in all directions.

Frederic Descamps
Senior Director, Marketing

Frederic Descamps is Senior Director of Marketing for Trion World Network. Descamps oversees all marketing and sales activities for Trion, including developing brand strategies, evaluating market conditions, managing community activities, and building programs to achieve maximum distribution and revenue potential for products and services.

As an essential member of the executive team, Descamps joins Trion with more than 10 years of experience in marketing, business development and management within the technology and gaming industry. Descamps spent the last four years as Senior Director of Marketing and Business development of Xfire, the fastest growing online gaming platform and community in the world, recently acquired by MTV Networks for $110M. During his time at Xfire, he was responsible for executing marketing campaigns, monetization strategy, and overseeing community management and public relations activities. Descamps also played a major role in growing the company through user acquisition, business development and sales. Throughout his time at Xfire, Descamps executed more than one hundred complex online campaigns for major brands including EA, Fox, Unilever, Intel and Pepsi, and helped grow Xfire's user base to more than 9 million.

Descamps graduated from the EDHEC Graduate School of Business in France, received his post-graduate degree in International Business Law from the University of Nice, and holds an MBA from Stanford University.

Erin Turner
Senior Director of Publishing & Web Services

Erin Turner is Senior Director of Web Services & Publishing for Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. At Trion, Turner leads the online publishing division to deliver connected-client applications & services for the global market. This includes product strategy and development for web, mobile, e-commerce, and syndication.

Turner brings to Trion 10 years of product development and product marketing experience in consumer web applications & client software. Most recently, she was Director of Global E-Commerce for Electronic Arts (EA), where she launched the digital distribution of games and in-game content for the PC games market in North America, Europe, and Asia. Prior to her position as E-Commerce Director, Turner directed product development for EA's online SDK which included online game capabilities and community applications. Her game credits include Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, The Sims 2 University, James Bond 007: Everything of Nothing, and James Bond 007: Nightfire.

Turner launched her career in the web arena as founding CEO of Gigabeat, a music search & recommendation engine acquired by Napster in 2001. She holds a M.S. from Stanford's School of Engineering and a B.A. in Economics, also from Stanford.

Won Seok Chung
Senior Director of Business Development

Won Seok Chung is the Senior Director of Business Development for Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the connected world. Chung is a key executive, focusing on a broad range of business development initiatives worldwide, and in particular, Asian markets. He manages activities to identify, evaluate, negotiate and execute new selective strategic alliances for the company.

Chung joins Trion with more than twelve years of business development, strategic planning and marketing experience. Prior to joining Trion, he spent several years as Department Head & Director of Business Development at Cyworld, Inc., one of the world's fastest growing online social networking destinations. During his time at Cyworld, Chung negotiated numerous contracts with major music labels, and identified and negotiated strategic partnership deals for product feature enhancement.

Prior to joining Cyworld, Chung spent several years as the Department Head and General Manager of Business Development for leading online game company NCSoft. While at NCSoft, Chung was directly responsible for setting up major partnership deals and joint ventures with global powerhouses, including Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Intel, NVIDIA and Sina.

Chung holds a Master's degree in Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Double Major in Economics and Computer Science from Boston University.

Peter Huang
Senior Director of Web Technology

Peter Huang is Senior Director of Web Technology of Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. He is responsible for the technology vision behind Trion's publishing and connected-client technology platform, bringing together the most relevant web and enterprise technologies to complement Trion's leading-edge game technology.

Huang joins Trion with more than 11 years of software development and management experience in Internet, client-server, and large-scale multi-tiered enterprise software. He was most recently Senior Director of Development at Electronic Arts (EA), where he led the industry giant's development efforts at EA Online and EA China. During his distinguished career at EA, Huang focused on delivering online platform technologies for Pogo.com, the world's number one casual games site, and for EA's Global Online business.

Prior to EA, Huang developed client-server network and imaging applications on multiple Unix and Linux platforms at Vividata, Inc. Huang developed some of the earliest multi-tiered web applications incorporating Java as a programmer at UC Berkeley, where he also earned his Bachelor of Arts degree.

Greg Barwis
Senior Director of IT and Network Operations

Greg Barwis is Senior Director of IT and Network Operations for Trion World Network, Inc., the publisher and developer of original entertainment and games for the broadband era. At Trion, Barwis uses his experience and expertise in leading-edge online operations to design and implement cost-effective and scalable network and server architectures, as well as to direct ongoing network and IT operations.

With more than 20 years of IT and engineering experience, Barwis joined Trion most recently from world-wide online games publisher and developer, NCsoft. At NCSoft, he administered Windows networks of over 1000 systems across nine sites in the US and Europe, including planning, implementation and deployment, as well as several intricate server migrations and launches.

The U.S. Army was the launch pad for the Barwis's impressive career, where he was the de facto support staff for two organizations comprising 500 individuals each. Thereafter he moved to Origin Systems, which saw him earn his MCSE certification and begin back-end infrastructure development and maintenance.

Barwis's history and clarity of vision combine for a rare and exceptional toolset, distinctly tailored to propel Trion's fundamental mission of pioneering content with fresh media and technologies.
